Aeronautical Lights

Lighting emits light, usually red or white, to alert aircraft to the presence of obstructions. It is installed on the surface of a structure or natural formation as defined by the Civil Aeronautics Act.

Aerodrome beacons, approach lights, runway edge lights, taxiway edge lights, and other lights indicate information such as the location of the airfield and the shape of the runway, and support the safe takeoff and landing of aircraft at night and in bad weather conditions.

Among aerodrome lights, heliports that are used at night are required by the Civil Aeronautics Act to have heliport nighttime lighting equipment.
